Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Flasy Mike, do you think it is the lens or is it a coating on the reflector?
( see my comment Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light - #15490 by joechina )

Lens.

I’m guessing perhaps you are tri-stating the pin and selecting the internal pullup (~50K-ish) for the low level ?

A bit like Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light - #13292 by Tom_Tom except using the internal pullup ?

The key is to not stop on the first strobe. Try and stop on the 2nd or higher one so you can then navigate backwards or forwards.

Hmm, I’ve been running Andúril on two first-batch Q8s for nearly a month now without issue. They’ve both seen several hours of use.

I just flashed my brand new second-batch Q8 this morning and it seems fine too, although I’ve only used it for about an hour so far.

My Emisar D4, D1, and EE X6R also play nicely with Andúril.

I’m interested to see what TK says about Andúril on her Q8. I think hers is a second-batch specimen.

BTW, ‘Lightning Storm’ mode looks absolutely awesome inside a jack-’o-lantern!

Mine arrived today as well. Very nice! I Love it.

I’m going to say, that mine has no AR coating at all. Mine was around #1290. What was your number ToyKeeper?

My switch looks perfectly balanced. All 4 LED’s are perfectly centered. My screws, and screw heads are smaller than earlier runs. I could only find one very minor blemish in the anodization. There was a small sliver of aluminum, laying in the bottom of the tripod mounting hole.

It’s just now getting dark enough here, to take it outside. I did for a few minutes so far, and this thing is working flawlessly. In the limited testing I have been able to do so far.

Excellent work Q8 Team! This thing is also much smaller than I imagined. Again. I Love it!

This wrap around backwards feature should be implemented on the next blf light, the GT. Mode sets may also wrap around backwards instead of turning off.

That’s going to be a really nice upgrade.

goshdoggit, that makes me think my FET swap and the power level are coming into play. I flashed Anduril on the second Q8 and so far it’s shown none of the problems. I even put a new ATTiny85 on my first one and it didn’t change anything, it’d lock up on the entry 7135 level, or Turbo, or moon, ramp up and not down, whatever. I flashed Narsil back onto the new MCU and it’s working fine, very responsive.

Got my second one today and as far as I can tell it looks pristine.

 Mine has shipped.

I got my Q8 the other day. got to figure out how to change from ramping mode to step mode. I never got the Convly L6 though. For the people that own both, how’s the Convoy L6 vs the BLF Q8?

Can someone tell lumen numbers on a bypassed Q8?

I got 7100 lumens according to my aproximating sphere, and I trust those numbers, more or less, but it seems like way too much for 4 xp-l emitters.

I completely bypassed the PCB, by using 18awg directly from the top of the springs, making contact with the batteries, and then making direct contact with the battery tube, holding the wire in place using the screws.

If anyone else has gotten similar (Or higher!) numbers, please tell me, just so I know if my numbers make sense.

EDIT: I just saw DB claiming 10k lumens (with xp-l2), so I guess my numbers are perfectly plausible. Next step, emitter swap for nichia 219c 9050 sm403.

I show that right here in this video.

Actual change happens at 5:00 mark.

I now call this my dual rubber band trick :sunglasses:
Does anyone happen to have some black rubber bands I can borrow?

I got 7139 with a spring bypass….

Different camera settings between the stock vs modified pics.

Thanks MtnDon, seems my numbers perfectly match up with yours.

I expected entirely bypassing the tail pcb and going straight from springs to battery tube would be better than going through the contacts from the PCB to the tube. Guess not, but since it works just fine, I’ll leave it as is.

Nice to see good reports.
Some issues are being talked to via PM, will update the OP with the issues later.

Oh gosh, when the first issues popes up I suggested Barry some sort of Q8 Cool Kit with AR coated or ultra clear glass, a metal colored switch retainer ring and switch assembly with different colors to choose from.
Didn’t hear back on it, but it seems we all got a AR coated lens
And as always some don’t like it, sigh. A quick Google search shoes me several hits how to remove AR coatings

I don’t think mine is AR coated. First batch. I will look closely when I go home.

It should not be.

They were saying the second batch looks like it might be AR coated.
