Thank you very much!

I found that spring mod linked in another mini C8 thread; should be interesting to find a way to cut a groove in there.

Dang, they require $5 min order. Can they be trusted with orders under $30? Without tracking would I get my money back if the item was lost in shipping?

I cant personally speak for the shop but I have never had a problem with them. You can probably pick these lenses up elsewhere as they are quite common. The groove could be cut with a dremel if you have one.

I just got done with my second one, with a 1/4” thick copper heat sink, a 16mm Noctigon sporting an XP-G2 R5 2B re-flowed to the copper pill, a 3 mode Qlite allowing 2.49A tailcap on an Efest IMR10440 cell, it’s making 518 lumens OTF at start-up and 459 OTF @ 30 sec.

I used an 18mm McGizmo reflector, for a decent mix of hot spot and spill. Gotta love it! Smile

Very nice Dale. Is the reflector out of an existing torch?

No, it’s made by/for McGizmo. It’s an 18mm OP reflector that IS has in a garage sale clearance. I’ve gotten several of them, pretty nice little aluminum reflector with a tight base that fits easily on a 16mm star.

Yes, I know…the reflector should be raised away from the star just a wee bit to better focus the emitter. But in this tiny light, there’s so little room that the extra 1-2mm is needed! Wink

I’m looking forward to seeing your build.

Well I ordered the tir linked above… 45+ days ago. No updates on tracking. Emailed ric 10 or so days ago, filed PayPal a few days ago. Ric seems to be giving me the cold shoulder on this one. Flat Stare

Is there a reliable shop (preferably US) that I can get them from? I’ve got 4 lights lined up and waiting on the 10 degree XML TIR’s.

I love the tightness of the 10 above. Not really sure how much of a difference 7 degrees will be.

unknown, the difference will be more than expected…if I’m not mistaken (and I’m sure someone will correct me if I am) the TIR gives an angle at half or radius. So a 10º optic puts out 20º OTF, a 17.3º would put 34.6º OTF, so you’d be going from kind of tight, to fairly broad. It takes something in the neighborhood of a 6º optic to get a decently tight hot spot. That’s my experience, could be wrong, it’s happened before…

Good to know!

Finally after some 50 days the tracking on my TIR order updated to arriving in New Hampshire today so here’s to hoping everything arrives correct, safe, and intact in the next 6-8 business days. Beer

I’m sorry to hear. I’d suggest though that being this time of the year that perhaps they are closed. I have a few orders also from China that are taking a lot longer than usual to arrive.

I doubt this driver would have a higher output than the SK68 driver of which there are many different types. Its more for running NiMH rechargeable batteries rather than Li-Ion batteries.
Edit. Have a browse here for SK68 mods. It should keep you busy for a little while.

My take on the c8 mini. Qlite 3,04A + xp-g2 r5-3c, TIR from the dqg tiny 18650 II, sanded the edge a bit, and used the oring under it. Now i just need some 10440s.

Crazy question

Since everyone says the boost circuit with 2AA seems alot higher

Would 2x 1/2AA NiMH drive these that much better?

http://www.newark.com/dantona-industries/1-2aa-750nm/nimh-rechargeable-b...

I know it seems silly...but would it do better?

Can't wait till I get my little boosters in!

Apparently so

http://www.all-battery.com/browseproducts/1-2-AAA-350-mAh-high-capacity-...

https://www.batterygiant.com/displayitem.asp?ID=1/2AAA-350mAh-T

Gotta desolder tabs it appears

Another crazy question...we have all seen the 20mm adapter at FT for the 17mm 105C drivers, would a 13 to 15/17 mm adapter be a good idea, or just whizzing in the wind?

Is this "booster" any good?
