I guessed that you missed the part about not being clean even after you clean it. Warm soapy water doesn’t kill germs.
I said “soap/cleaner”; I’d use a cleaner that does, or at least is supposed to kill “germs”, or maybe even bleach.
In general, you need to stay away from antibacterial, antibiotic cleansers. Washing your hands with soap and water removes bacteria from your skin and hands and, otherwise, keep your (possibly unclean) hands and fingers out of your eyes, nose and mouth. The over-use of antibiotic cleaners is helping produce resistant super bugs by killing off non-resistant strains which by competition hold the resistant bugs in check. Also, not requesting antibiotics for virus-based illnesses and completely finishing all antibiotic pills when prescribed. Thanks to the over and incorrect use we now have MRSA and completely resistant strains of tuberculosis. I’ll step off the soap box now.
The over-use of antibiotic cleaners is helping produce resistant super bugs
Not to beat you over the head, but it’s actually the under -use of antibiotic soap that’s the problem. That and the ubiquitous alcohol-gel dispensers. Ignorant people seem to believe that the mere touch of an antibiotic soap or some magic goo will make it so they don’t actually have to scrub, rinse and dry their hands anymore.
In the experiments and studies I mentioned earlier, they found that if you wash your hands properly it doesn’t matter whether you use antibiotic soap or not. Likewise if you don’t wash properly. And the alcohol gels are for after washing, not in lieu of.
And the alcohol gels are for after washing, not in lieu of.
I cringe when I see people rub antibacterial gels on their hands and put food in their mouth right after. Maybe the bacteria is dead, but what about lead, arsenic and other chemicals/toxic metals they picked up as they touch things all around themselves?
In reality, what they’re doing is teaching their bodies to fight off infections. By taking on a small “dose” of antagonistic organisms, all living things can develop antibodies (you’ve heard this before, it’s called “vaccination”) which fight off the infectious material from then on. That system is as old as Life itself and it works perfectly. The problem is doing it out of ignorance or belief: If you’re not aware of what you’re “self-vaccinating” against, you won’t know until it’s too late whether it will kill you or not.
Not that any of this has anything to do with Home Despot…

I have to disagree. The overuse of any antibacterial product selects for resistant strains while killing off the nonresistant strains. The entire population of bacteria compete and the nonresistant strains keep the resistant strains in check. Once you wipe put the competing nonresistant strains, completely resistant bacteria like MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and the resistant TB bacteria are a matter of time. As soon as genes for resistance become prevalent, they are shared among different bacterial species by conjunction and hospitals are the prime locations where lots of sick people go. Pharmaceutical companies are not developing new antibacterial drugs because of cost and ROI. The entire antibacterial age may last only about 100 years and we’ll be back to dying from infections. Correctly washing with regular soap is what I was promoting. I have insulin-dependent diabetes and live in fear of drug resistant e. coli (bladder infections). This seems to have gone the way of arguing about global warming and I apologize for disrupting the purpose of the thread. So, please, back to the Home Depot Deals!
This useful and popular thread seems to go off-topic frequently into interesting discussions and I think I should suggest my suggestion now…
The Home Depot Deal Alerts and related threads are very useful and can help people save money, and it is kind-of not very nice that it is buried somewhere in a flashlight forum… what do you think if we had our own website, or at least section of this site, devoted to Deal Alerts and Discussions of Home Depot, Lowe’s, Harbor Freight, etc, where the community of “deal sniffers” (I suppose you could call it) can live, and post their deal alerts and have their discussions, as well as go off-topic into interesting topics such as mice and antibiotics (lol)
It would be a lot nicer instead of having all this useful stuff jammed in a few threads buried in a flashlight forum…
Just a suggestion; this probably won’t happen; I think some people would argue that this stuff belongs to BLF and makes BLF great. But I think that these deal alerts are not related much to flashlights, and I am not really interested in flashlights.
Apparently Home Depot has been carrying the Maglite 3C, I have never paid attention. This store had 2 at the clearance endcap with no price. I had to take it up to price check.
$18.06, not a bad price. These usually are between $25 and $35 online plus the shipping. At another Home Depot I saw that they were not yet reduced, HD’s regular price is $21.97
This was a one of deal. I found this 56 piece DeWalt bit set over by the contractors desk buried under a bunch of newer sets. Had a 1/4 inch of dust on it. Rang up for a penny.
Not a deal yet, but this store has started to clearance the Husky 3D light that is regularly priced at $34.97 to $33.00. Not much of a discount but the “00” price means that it has just started the 00 to 06 to 03 run.
Lately I am noticing that stores are not in sync as well as they used to be with the clearance prices.
This light just went from $28.00 ( “00” price) to $23.06.
I could have bought that at one store at 50% off the $28.00 price. Glad I didn’t because right now Lowes beats even that!
That same light at Lowes

Who will pay and administrate such a website and how will it attract visitors?
The current off topic will fizzle out, just give it time. I stopped replying to a few and avoided the germ one so it would end faster.

I was at home depot again today and could not find even one $x.03 priced item. I did see a few $x.04 including Mag 2xD xeon and Defiant indestrectible 3xC. There were a few defiant models with tags on the shelves indicating they were ‘NEW’. I wonder if they’re being produced by a different manufacturer now. I did pick up a 3xAAA 130 lumen defiant for $5.97 that they also had in a 2 pack. I couldn’t find it on the website but it is the same one as in this amazon listing . It has a tiny emitter (xp-e2 or xp-g2?) that isn’t centered very well but if I can defeat the adhesive holding the head it might be a decent host. It has a faceted reflector and produces a hot spot similar in size to my ea41w on low but smoother and a much cooler tint and may be worth a dedome attempt if I can get the head off.

Thanks! I was guessing at what it might be based on size. Based on the size of the die vs size of the dome XT-E is also a possibility. I won’t know for sure until I get the head off and measure it.

I bought my first “baseball bat” light yesterday while browsing through HD. I purchased the indestructible Defiant 3C for $15. Any links to what I can do with this light?
The one I posted about is single mode.Even so I think it would make a decent host with a driver up to about 1.5A with a 3p battery holder and 10440s. Unfortunately the tube’s too short for an 18650. Oddly enough the tailcap fits a cheap ultrafire zoomie I have here so if I can get the head off I can put the head on the ultrafire tube and I’ll have an 18650, 3x aaa or 3p 10440 light with a decent beam and side and tail switches.
edit: plastic reflector suffered damage from heat gun in an attempt to remove the head.

It can cost nothing and anyone can administrate it. Visitors can find the site through searching or by being redirected from these threads (the site would be a replacement of these threads). Why do you want the current off-topic to fizzle out? That’s not the point.

I scored a fluorescent fixture!!!
It even comes with genuine Thomas&Betts Marettes!
Also at that home depot I saw something stupid they did… you know the LED bulb display with the LED bulbs in plastic boxes? Well one of the displays was for a Philips warm glow bulb (the one that changes color as it is dimmed). But they put a Philips basic bulb in there, which are not dimmable! Poor thing was flickering.
I was at the HD in Woodhaven,MI at Allen and West road and they had the 4 packs of Energizer Advanced lithium AAA and AA batteries on clearance for $4.20, regular price $6.97. These were in one of the clearance end caps in the center aisle of the store.
Anybody else see that the EGO string trimmers are on the .06 cycle?
I was talking to the guy in the outdoor equipment section about the trimmer and he suggested I wait and keep an eye on the price since no one looks at em and that the price will drop again.
In my mind I was thinking, “if I wait long enough I might score one of these for a penny…”

Sure it is. There are tons of “germs” at HD’s. I’m with you Dim. Germs provide exercise for my immune system. Gotta it keep in shape too.

Personally, this thread is typical BLF in that is shoots off in tangents. Part of what makes BLF, BLF.

defiant used a xt-e in their 2x AA light. with 2× 14500 it went DD and lost modes. $17 was too much so i returned it
