Hello BLFers.

I received my sample SN6X-2X from MaxToch yesterday, and was very eager to unwrap this puppy! It came sufficiently boxed, with a nice zippered carrying case, extra clicky-switch/negative spring board, 2 extra red O-rings and a nice lobster claw lanyard. Quick pic:

I took several other pics that highlight the differences as well as give y’all a good look at this very high quality thrower. I also thought it would be helpful to have a compare/contrast with my older version MaxToch Limited Edition SN6X-2X (from last years GB), and this newer/improved SN6X-2X available through the Group Buy. .

I won’t get too much into the technical aspects as far as lumens, mAh etc…BLF member mudgripz is way more qualified than I, and has done some great legwork in shedding a little light (heheh) on this torch, as well as its mod-ability.

I’m not a great photographer by any means. I just hope this gives you a good idea of how well built this torch is:

Close-up of tailswitch of old and new versions. Notice the old version light is actually longer, newer version is shorter and button is flush (smaller button diameter as well), which now allows tailstanding.

Pics of old lens (left) and new (right). I hope you can see it, but the emitter hole at the base of the reflector is much more snug around the emitter on the newer model…much improved tolerance. You can also see some of the color reflecting off the new AR lens.

Wall shot 2. Older model on left, newer on right. You might not be able to tell, but newer model is brighter, warmer and has fewer ‘artifacts’ in the beam.

Poor little R056 sitting in there all by it’s lonesome, needs a mate to play with! :slight_smile:

How does that strobe function work? Looks like an extension to the tube makes contact with the secondary ring on the driver, does this have the battery tube semi-lose during normal function? Or do the o-rings have it snug?

Takes only a few seconds for a tail reading with your DMM. Can you do us the favor please? How many amps in high?

It is the opposite. You loosen the battery tube slightly for strobe function. Double O-rings keep it very snug.

There are more improvements as well. I will add comments at a later date…I’m crashing now…zzzzz

Thanks Krono. I have 4 of those free HF DMM’s stashed away somewhere. I still need to dig em out and pound them into dust with my 10 lb sledge. |(

I didn’t do any tailcap measurements on this light.

Its a beauty though. Took my upgraded 2X (dedomed and running at 240kcd+) out for a walk last night and was looking at bunnies at 100m or so in a field, and buildings at 4-500m. Excellent throw - and good spill with it even dedomed. On med power it still reads about 95-100kcd - heaps for outdoor spotting and just a bit softer on the bunnies at 100m than the superbright high beam.

Hell of a light - and so is the lightweight M24 (173kcd dedomed). Can’t decide which is my favourite…

Looking forward to reading a review on the new M12 some time too.

Has anyone commented on/reviewed the maxtochs on cpfm - they’d certainly like them as well.

How much lighter is the M24? And how much is stock throw difference in the two? And what about otf lumens of both?

This is when I first got my SN6X-2X, at 96Kcd in stock form, the link shows a mouseover with wide-angle being the base, zoomed in on mouseover Stock SN6X-2X

No pics HERE but an example of my first mod to the light taking it up over 170Kcd. Beamshots of this HERE This includes a shot at over 600 yds.

And an exterior mod of the paracord handle wrap

Some semi-final numbers, hitting 338Kcd at 4.21A from Panasonic PF’s and a 5 minute timed lightbox run.

Better distance beamshots of a small white barn 610 yds distant.

And the piece de resistance, an UCLp lens that gives 27Kcd MORE on top of already good numbers, giving my SN6X-2X it’s whopping 364.75Kcd. And this post tells where to get the lens.

Hope this is helpful, I didn’t want to fill this new lights thread pages with pics from the old light, lest confusion sets in. Same resistor mods should work similarly in this new light, as should de-doming and the lens. Might be pertinent to double check the lens diameter and thickness though, to be on the safe side.

Rusty -

The new lightweight M24 Sniper comes in at just 270gms - ideal for scope mounting or handheld spottie. Stock Maxtoch claim 82.5kcd at 10m, and my reading is 83.1k. With just dedome it reads 173kcd at 6m - maybe 180 at 10m. They absolutely nailed this torch design - light, powerful, very well made, a gem. In testing, Gadgetman and I both gave it 10/10.

The new 2X weighs 440gms I think. Stock Maxtoch tests got 122 and 124kcd for two examples at 10m, and my reading was 112k for mine at 6m. With just dedome it now reads 237kcd at 6m - likely 240-250 at 10m.

Not much difference between the two dedomed lights out to 300 meters, then the extra lux of 2X kicks in. Both v long range. No idea of otf lumens sorry.

Awesome. How much did the first Maxtoch/STL-V2 weigh? Am trying to decide whether I want extra (extreme) throw with some weight vs lightweight with still great throw. Can’t decide.

I’ve got an idea the first maxtoch SN6X-2 - also sold as skyray stl-v2 - weighed 262 gms. The M24 is most like this light - a big development on it.

If you are doing shooting at all and need a scope mountable light plus one for general outdoors use I’d go the M24. If for general outdoors then a really tweaked up 2X at 350k+ would be awesome fun.

Could you measure the AR lens diameter+thickness for me Krono, would be nice to find replacement if necessary.

The AR lens is 67mm x 3mm.
