Hi guys,

Thanks for your support again!

The coupon code for the gray version does not work now, because the one we got yesterday is a sample for testing, not the batch supply, it will be available for ordering in a few days, I will update on this thread. I’m really sorry for this inconvenience Flat Stare

Announcement to date:

Oct. 16, 2014—-there has been a mix-up regarding the strobe. It is hidden in both color versions.

As quoted in this review in the op:

“A long press on the switch ~2secs activates a hidden strobe”. (http://budgetlightforum.com/node/26701) by LinusHofmann

The tracking info for mine was just updated today to show that it arrived in NY city at 9:42 PM two days ago! I guess I should have it soon, maybe even today. Sure wish the tracking could keep up with it. Yesterday, it still said Origin Post was preparing the shipment, although apparently, it had hit New York the night before! I’m so ready to just have this light in my hands!

Hehe it’s in mine! done the thick wire in tailcap quickie for now – will do the copper strips at the weekend maybe.
As for tracking/insurance, I couldn’t seem to add it before paying (paypal), I saw the option directly after but had already paid. So mine was untracked anyway as it turns out.
Very impressed so far, but sadly can’t compare it to my STL-V6 as it’s broken. The only thing it lacks is a lanyard hole – I can’t help think it’s gona get dropped or slip from my hand.
Hope you get yours soon! Silly

Hi guys, out of interest what batteries are you using/planning to use in your Courui’s? I have some Trustfire flame 3000mAh ones I got from Tmart which seem fine so far.
Do the Panasonic (NCR18650b) ones fit, I read they are slightly thicker? The trustfires are 18.48mm and the Panasonic’s are 18.73mm (or so I read) – there isn’t masses of free space around the Trustfires, hence me wondering if the thicker ones will fit ok, as I plan to get some next month.
Length isn’t a problem as the trustfires are the same.

It's a parallel setup, so no need to use protected, although protected seem to always be button top. Ideal cell is an unprotected button top, like these: fasttech.com-pana-ncr18650b-3400mah or these are real nice for ultimate low resistance if you crank up the amps: mtnelectronics.com-Efest 35A bt.

These would be great: mtnelectronics.com-Pana BD bt, combining capacity and low resistance.

The Pana B's unprotected would have no problems fitting.

Thanks Tom but being a bit new to all this, I’ll be sticking with protected batteries. However later on it may be something I consider.

Well, yesterday the factory said…‘4 to 5 days more’. Seems their ‘accuracy’s a bit off twice already so Dora and I decided to instead observe for ‘a bird in hand’ policy….than to keep on announcing.. but since you asked.. haha. So in the meantime, sit back and have a Beer

You didn’t link my review… oh wait… that’s because I don’t have one, because I haven’t ordered one yet, because the gray is still not in! LOL.

By the way, those cool threads are not helping us to be more patient. You’re just teasing us aren’t you. Smile

Just received the light from this GB, this is the worst condition I’ve ever received a reflector in, there is a huge scratched spot (not a single scratch, a bad SPOT) where it looks like some sort of machine / tool picked the reflector up by the shiny part, the lens is really bad, doubt it can be gotten clear and the lens o-ring is busted.

GEarBestCS are you reading this thread or do I need to PM / email you? This light is NOT acceptable.

Edit: just put batteries in it, is there possible supposed to be 3 modes? I ask cause first press does nothing at all, it goes:
First press = nothing
second press = high
third press = low
forth press = off then it repeats, from off you have to do 2 clicks to get it to come back on in high next time around.

hold at any time for strobe, click to exit strobe

Edit 2: I did get 91kCd measured 100% stock (didnt even replaced the tail wire yet), that is decent! Even still, this light is not acceptable as-is.

Whoa! Shocked

Thank you for reporting this CK. Did the rest who got their D01s have the same findings too?

Good thing I waited for the grey version to be available. :~

High CSGB, PM replied, I await your response… Hopefully you can take care of me, I have made an offer, if you can work with the offer I made it will save you some money over a refund and will make me a happy customer which should make everyone here feel a little better while they wait on theirs.

Full disclosure to everyone reading, I asked for a $27 credit, again I purchased this light to mod and sell, its simply in to bad of condition to be able to sell (I could deal with the messed up UI, thats actually of almost no concern to me but I fant fix this reflector, its to bad) however I could still use this light to take measurements and in my designing and testing of my new driver. My offer was to be aloud to keep this for a partial credit [not any money back, all in-store credit] (which in the end would save them over the $5 difference in price over having to pay to return this one and either refund me in full or replace it).

Mine was at my house Saturday, but it got taken back to the USPS office because I wasn’t home to sign for it (registered mail). I took my little “you’ve got mail” card to the USPS office and got my light last evening. The lens is dirty, but otherwise the light is in good condition. It was wrapped in a little bit of bubble wrap, inside a cardboard box, which, in turn, was inside a bubble mailer.

I like the black anodizing. I’m not into gray, unless it is a med/dark gray, so I’m not interested in the gray version of this light. Mine only has two “normal” modes: HI-LO-OFF, but it does have a hidden strobe, activated by a long press at any time, from any mode, including OFF. A short press returns it to whatever mode it was already in before strobe was activated, including OFF. It has a SMO reflector and makes a nice beam, once you get far enough away to close the donut hole, which is about 30 inches. I’d rather it start on low, and have a way to turn it off without going through every mode (even though there are only two), but overall I’m pleased. Smile

I guess, considering the Customs issue and the National Holiday both happening in China soon after my purchase, the shipping time wasn’t all that bad. Tracking, although it could have been more useful, did finally work. This light is easily the brightest flashlight I’ve ever owned. But that’s not saying much, because I’ve just got started in this hobby. It wasn’t that long ago that I thought 100lm was bright. Silly

David, glad to hear your’s is in better condition, can I ask if you’re positive that’s how the strobe works? From off I can activate strobe directly but a single click turns it back to high upon exiting strobe, not straight back off like you describe.

Again I have zero interest in the factory driver / UI, it’s not a big concern for me (not like my other issues) but just wondering about the inconsistencies, there have been numerous reports of how the UI works on these things.

Ahh Phooey! I thought I remembered that it went back to OFF. But, upon trying it just now, it does things a little differently. When you first press the button, whether you’re doing a short press or holding it for long press, it goes to whatever mode is next in the order HI-LO-OFF. Then, if you are doing a long press for strobe, then a short press goes back to that mode, not whatever position it was in before the press. So, from OFF, a long press would have the result OFF->HI->Strobe. Then a short press from strobe would go back to HI. It is the same from whatever mode you are in. So also HI->LO->Strobe (short press to LO) and LO->OFF->Strobe (short press to OFF). Weird UI, but at least it’s consistent!

Why, If I buy a light marketed at $27 I’m sure they’re paying a considerable amount less than that so that’s saving them money right there. Not to mention on their reply to my initial message they offered a replacement or full refund (my choice) so I figured since they were being upfront in fixing this right off the bat I would offer to take a lesser refund and not have them have to pay to get this back to scrap it (my DX light arrived today so I have a good one to build), it would be nice to have this one for fitting parts and figuring out the tail mod and shit, no way it can be sold tho and its so bad I really can’t even use it for a personal / beater light.

This light is literally unusable, the driver issue wouldn’t be a concern really but the reflector is trash (and if I wernt me and was wanted to use the light as it came the extra click really hinders that). The worst (deepest) spiderweb surface damage is about 8-10 sq mm; a 2×3mm square area and another spot about an inch over that looks similar but is slightly smaller, these look like some sort of mechanical arm (for a P&P machine or something) crashed into it, the overall damage to the reflector coating however is much much larger, several square inches.

Edit: The majority of the time they don’t even end up wanting the broken light back, so I kind’a offered them something for nothing in that regard. I’m not the average customer either (and they’re aware of this, at least a few CS ladies at GB are lol), I only sell a handful of lights here a month but I am literally shipping a minimum of a light a day, the majority of my business happens off these forums, as such I’m buying lights nearly daily to mod (we all know how far out you have to order from some of these places so I have to keep ahead of demand on my ordering hosts). Let’s just say I’ve had more than my fair share of dealings with CS departments from different china shop’s, my offer is definitely more than fair.

I guess we all have our own way of looking at things; I disagree with you. I’m aware that it’s normal for many Chinese sellers to refund without a return in situations like this. I just don’t think much of the implication that while the light is not worth $0 to you… it is in fact worth exactly $2.99.

I ordered my Courui before the Yezl and tubes, but got the Yezl and tubes, but no Courui. If I get it, I may order the Gray one.
