Yes, good idea. I’ve been thinking over the technical path toward implementing this functionality too.
I’ve often wanted to give posts a +1 or a ‘lol’ or a ‘Thanks!’ without posting a new one-word comment. I’d want it to be clear which comment I was thanking them for though. Similarly, if someone lets me know I’m being rude, I’d want to know which comment(s) bothered them. I can guess sometimes, but I’ve often found my guesses are wrong.
Why do some people seem pretty obsessed about their rude meter? I don’t even log in to BLF unless I need to post. So sometimes I won’t even see my rude meter for the entire day. Even when I’m logged in, I don’t seek it out. First world problem.
Stranded in the dark without flashlight… Now that’s a third world problem

I think a "Thanks" meter should be implemented. It shows which members are really helping the most and encourages others to do the same. It works, it really seems to make people focus on good constructive participation. Pulls the best out of the worst and helps the best encourage the worst. Works everytime. Positive re-enforcement is nothing new to correcting abnormal behavioral issues.
Chuckle. The equivalent experiment is to pop the “search bubble” aka “filter bubble” — sign out of everything Google, flush the cache, restart the browser, and repeat that favorite search that always brings up exactly the kind of thing you like to read about fresh every day, and …. surprise! The world differs.
Google profiles what you like to click on, and shows you more and more of that, so you see more predictably targeted ads: $$PROFIT$$.

Hi everyone, to those who are confused about their rudeness level, please notice the mouseover caption for the button:
"Mark this post as rude, lewd, or conflictive."
I would suspect that in most cases of higher-than-normal "Rudeness" levels, it's actually due to controversial ("conflictive") posts that are likely to spark arguments. I suppose the button is a bit of a misnomer, but I had to chose a short name that would fit. And in reality, a controversial post about politics etc. that sparks a fight is essentially rude.
Regarding a "Thanks" button, if I add it I probably won't make the person's score publicly visible.
Not rude but definitely in the pictoobig corner. Need to set size to 100% or less or auto sizing shrinks all posts to fit the pic in the window. It won’t shrink your pic, rather, it prevents all else from being shrunk.

Works for me, especially with the mouse-over.
I must say though, I am sincerely sorry for the circus this has become.
It’s ironic it was put in place to calm things down. I think after the “new” wears off it will actually be helpful.
I want to say Thank You as well, I come here a lot of times with information overload and don’t want to see more of the same opinions that are expressed in every blog, post and page on the internet. This place has always been a place to unwind and relax for me, and I appreciate that. Sure, every now and again someone decides they must express themselves, but I try to just skip over it and go on to read the cool stuff everyone else is doing in regards to lights, and electronics in general.
If I feel the need to argue or express myself, there are countless other venues for that.

I agree, it’s a show of appreciation, not a score so only the recipient needs to see it. If you want to rank members then do a poll instead and we can hold an election for best dogooderatlarge, best moderatlarge, best tester, best whateveryoulikebester.

Poor SB…
Only check my rudeness level when reading this thread.
FWIW, I can stand rudeness and foul language (lol working in mental health care in Amsterdam long long time ago litteraly all aggressive patients were sent to me if colleges could not cope and I promise you there are quite a fee of those roaming Amsterdam ) it does not bother me as I see it as a problem for the one being rude.
I find derailing without rudenessuch worse since that requires attention, answers, seeing threads go sideways and cannot be ignored so easy nor does compel the writer to apologize or delete the post(s)
So I like the effort SB but please leave it, no more even “thanks” buttons, BLF is great and warm!

Sounds interesting please tell I was reading stories of people that trip out on mushrooms in Amsterdam and get admitted because they are a danger to them selfs and others? Mostly tourist apparently.
Seems like a good idea. Does it need any special permissions, or does it filter out self-ratings? I marked one of my posts as rude and went to that link and still see nothing.
(By way of affirmation as well as example.)

A couple of BLF members thought I was rude, so my level went up to +1, then the next day it was at 0, where it has stayed ever since.

RC got Ruded? How is that even possible??????
You only have ever posted good clean positive stuff, even some FANTASTIC pics of "that woman."
Nice! Although I may have to ‘rude’ you for not setting your pic at 100% so it doesn’t run off the right side of the screen.
Honestly I think I posted something conflictive, and when my Rudeness Level went up, I deleted that post.

But SB, that's the whole point is to post it. Why are you wanting to not show it? Competition?
