OK folks, Here is the Lucky Sun D80 provided to me from GearBest for review.
This is a very nice small High Performance 18650 flashlight with very good output, nice thermal management and light weight.
It is quite a bit smaller than a Standard C8 at 130mm in length.
Anodizing is superb and it has a nice feel in the hand.
User interface is as follows;
Always starts on High, then goes to Med, Low, Strobe, Turbo, SOS
Why they stick Turbo in between the Strobe and SOS is one of life’s little mysteries. I would love to know what the engineer’s reasons were.
Good part is it has a very healthy High, Medium is not much lower in visible light even though amperage drops in half, but the real treat here is a very nice usable Low. No it is not a Moonlight but rather is a nice soft .04 amp draw low.
Turbo is direct drive and with a good low resistance cell will pull over 4.30 amps. One battery I tried went over 4.5 amps but not for long.
At this drive the XM-L T6 U2 will get heat sag however the heat management appears to be very good.
It out blasts all of my stock C8’s other than the Tangsfire C8 XM-L2.
The throw is not as much compared to the C8’s because of the smaller reflector. Don’t get me wrong, it still throws well for a pocket light and puts out a lot of light. It is very comparable to the Eagle Eye X6 both in size and throw. It does however have better output than the stock Eagle Eye X6.
Last night I compared it to the Convoy L4 which we all know has great output, this light is roughly the same output on High as the L4 and then definitely brighter on Turbo.
Please also note this Turbo does not step down, so if you like to burn em hard, have at it.
I will outdoor beam shots up by the weekend.
Here are some quick and dirty indoor shots;

Compared to some similar lights
So to sum up for now, this little light has become a quick favorite.
The weird user interface does not bother me as much as I thought it would as it always comes on High and then goes right to Med and Low which is usually where I stop if using it in the barn. If I want to go to Turbo, 2 more quick taps and I am there.
I love the high output and don’t think you can really mod it for more output as it appears to be direct drive.
The tint is warmer than the 26650 model that has the XM-L2 so I am not sorry that this one has the older model emitter, it is one of the best stock T6’s that have come down the pike in quite some time.
Lot’s of bang for the buck here and it is not just another C8, it is very pocketable.
One warning, Lucky Sun builds these things to stay together, it was a Bear to get that driver retaining ring loose. I ended up having to use a big pair of circlip pliers which needed to have the tips ground down to fit the holes in the retaining ring. The scratches can be seen in the photo of the driver ring from the smaller ring pliers that I usually use where they would not provide the torque needed and flexed causing the marks.
Tail cap ring was tight as well but no where near as tight as the Driver ring.
The Bezel was on there pretty good as well and I could not get the reflector to pop out and did not want to tear the O-Ring so that will have to wait for another day.
Anyway enjoy the pics and I will get some outdoor shots soon.
Update; More outdoor shots in thread
