Is there a chance that some of the new cool features of Toykeepers D4 firmware, e.g. - default 100% of the 7135 at power up are build in the FW3A?
Well yes Narsil needs some tweaking for this small light and modes for the 7135 chips are high on my wish list for sure
Ahh, I wrote both versions, but TK took over the D4. Not sure why a 100% of the 7135 is a nice feature for power up default - never thought of it, but it's easy to do in NarsilM, in fact I think I have something similar as a compile switch option, but it might go to max or something - think Lexel requested it. I "think" NarsilM is still more advanced, but not familiar with TK's mods.
NarsilM v1.1 will be made public soon, and it also has some new features, mostly intended for the GT buck driver, but two main feature additions:
has a momentary/tactical mode, accessible by 5 quick clicks (sorry, 2-4 were already taken)
the ramping can max out below the max/turbo level, so you can make ramping's max 80% for example, but the double-click to turbo will still be 100%.
For ramping, I think the 150 levels at 16 msecs each takes a bit long. Been experimenting with 120 or 135 entries.
150 = 2.4 secs
135 = 2.16 secs
120 = 1.92 secs
It actually takes a little longer, because there's a pause at moon level.
Also, not sure if many are aware of it, but NarsilM v1.0 will be in the launched Q8, and it also has a "Restore Factory Defaults" command.
For the FW3A, I assume it will be at least NarsilM v1.1, but if the D4 firmware is preferred, no problem there. Might be a merge up and coming, or new versions TK is working on. We still have inherent limitations in the ATTiny85 MCU, so would still like to pursue using an ATMEL with more memory (16 KB) and more I/O pins, that also comes in a smaller package - lot of advantages...
It's all a matter of time mostly - when the D4 is productionized, who's got time for the further development, etc.
I have a completely unrelated question. I was thinking of using a drilled optic that holds tritium vials. Is that a bad idea based on the heat this light will likely generate? Perhaps if I limit the max level?
I think there are situations where it should not be super fast:
- if you got straight out off the bed and you want to use moonlight
- if you’re drunk
- if you have taken medicine
- if you’re a bit older
I think you are very used to Narsil, so you have an advantage.
Well with mode memory the lamp remembers the last level. But the User doesn't. After 10 I don't know any more where the brightnesd of a light was. So you can reset it to a usefull level. And if you than switch it on you have 150lm It's like setup your gear ready to go. It's like your car in your garage with a full gas tank. It's one klick for ON instead of ramping
Just seems like one of many usage scenarios. I've used lights in walking trails and I like the idea of setting a perfect level of brightness, but most of the time, walking with the light OFF. But I can simply get back to the level I previously set, which is ideal for this scenario. 150 lumens may be useful, may not be, for this usage. I'd rather be the one setting the level, not the light forcing me to a specific level. I do like the idea of getting to the max 7135 level though, since it's an efficient setting.
i know it’s done when it’s done, but when’s it going to be done?

ok, well i was trying to wade through all that and it got too confusing, trying to figure out if any real date or range was buried in all that or not.
at least he isn;t asking for crowd funding (UNLIKE zanflare, or the ‘cardboard bike’ that never emerged from the begging stage. ).

Let us combine a few pieces of information we have gathered, the first came to the Q8 team today.
We have received word the factories that make (parts of) the Q8 are busy for the last quarter production, a busy season.
Lumintop wants to get the GT done before their production for busy season is in full swing.
We have not reached a stage of prototyping the FW3A, it is all CADs.
My guess is this one might take a while. And if I had to say when, judging by how fast Lumintop can work I’d say Q1/Q2 2018
I’m crossing my fingers for that Early 2018 will bring uncertainties about employment (or certainties about unemployment…), and I would not want to take my name out of this list

MAh it is too hot to do concrete now, kind of a shame, would love to build the dam now that the river has dried out, maybe get a whole bunch of flashlights and do it after the sun sets

Why work during daylight when you can light up the whole construction area all night with just a couple spare lights and protos? One more excuse to stock up on flashlights…
PS: i bought one of those 10W COB floodlight that plugs into the AC and it’s quite amazing how bright they are with almost no heat. A couple of them and you’re good.

@Tom
It doesn’t sound slow if it ramps in 3 sec.

Tom, of course full Narsil is preferred. But indeed some tweaks needed for this small size light.
Gunga you ought to check how these vials react to high temperatures and lots of lumens blasted at them

Tom I don’t know how you do it, but Narsil (in all its forms), is a thing of beauty. Can’t wait to see what it does with this unique flashlight.
+1!!

I’ve been keeping up with it and I don’t remember seeing a date. There might be a goal, but those goal posts have been known to move.

Approximately in week se7en of 2018.
Not all regions in China share exactly the same dates.
You are a flashaholic if you are forced to come out of the closet, to make room for more flashlights.
