In addition to these questions, what version of Andúril is the copper version running? I’ve got one in my basket but I’d like to know if I also need to get one of those clips for flashing drivers with.
Nichia has the best CRI, but how does it compare in heat, lumens and throw, vs Cree and SST? I’m assuming the hottest with the least lumens and throw?
I still haven’t seen the 219C and SST-20 used in this light, so I’m not sure what they look like in person.
However, the SST-20 should be more throwy, while the 219C is more floody. It looked like the original 219C batch also had a very nice rosy tint, so I hope the future batches will too. In theory, I think I would like SST-20 more because it does not need as much power to illuminate to the same hotspot intensity… but I would really have to see it in person to be able to decide.
Mostly I’m using a lightly modded one instead, with 219B. It’s really hard to beat.
Thanks TK and Jason. I forgot that the Nichia was in the original comparison. I guess I just have to decide whether I want WW or CW.
I already do love this light in NW.
Has anyone figured out how to make the clip work better? It keeps slipping off my pocket. I tried the clip from my Convoy S2+ around the groove at the top, which at least makes it deep carry, but it also grabs pretty loosely. I think the problem is due to the taper.
Sorry if this is an ignorant question, but if I squeeze the bend in the clip tighter (so that it grabs harder), do I risk breaking it? I’d really like to order another but only if I can make them stay clipped on.

The SST-20 has slightly higher CRI than the 219C. The tint may be greener at low output though. Since nobody has compared the two side by side yet, we can’t know. The CRI is close enough you’d probably need a photospectrometer to tell, but the tint may not be.
Output, throw, and heat depend on whether the 219C SST-20 is using the 50% FET version of the firmware. I’m not sure anyone has provided a definite answer to that. The 219C will have the least throw no matter what, but with 100% FET, output will be similar to the SST-20, and heat will be a little more. With 50% FET, output will be lower than everything else, but so will heat on max.
I couldn’t be happier than I am with 219B and 50% FET in mine.

Will we get / have we gotten confirmation that the SST-20’s are, in fact, FA3 bin?
We have like half a dozen members or more with the ability to measure that. Bob said he will post it as soon as he gets his. I ordered a Copper SST-20 but I suspect Bob will probably get AL ones first.

The FA3 bin should bring the hotspot tint almost on top of the BBL.
Out of curiosity, how many units do they have to sell to make it worth producing a version with a different metal?
Intriguing question, I always wonder that and never found/got an answer. Maybe Neal knows and is willing to tell us.
I would assume such information is proprietary.
I doubt there is an actual number. It’s probably a combination of a lot of things besides total sales. You’ve got the rate of sales, plus the costs of production for these different materials, plus the perceived interest level in other materials from forums and such. They will probably see how a small batch of copper units will sale. If it’s good, then try other materials. So it’s probably not (2,000 sales = copper version), etc… Just my thoughts on it.

I thought I really wanted the titanium one, but after a lot of thinking I realised that I preferred the look of the copper. I don’t actually own any copper lights yet, so I went and pulled the trigger. I didn’t even need the FW3A and now you folks have got me spending even more on an FW3C! Here’s hoping the SST-20s are FA3…

Lumintop only has one version of the firmware. It doesn’t use different firmware for different emitters. So 219C and SST-20 go up to 100% FET power.
About to purchase copper version and get distracted by a discount on local marketplace here (Timex camper 50% off)

sure
it is in plan
Are the SST20 FA3 bin for the copper version too?
Also, are all led options for the copper body the same price, unlike the aluminum body where 219c and SST20 are ~$5 cheaper?

I gotta tell ya, this is pretty terrific!
Is there a discount code for the copper edition? I might buy one but then again being copper it will see no use probably lol.

Yeah, still hoping for bare aluminum at some point, with no bead blasting.
Titanium should be nice too, but it’s so much heavier…
Nah...I'd rather go with "Miss Piggy" pink

I still can’t decide which version to buy (after the 3D of course), between these and the 1A or 7A.
The nichia is listed here in this chart, but it’s missing the sst20.

Oh maaan…was about to pay for the copper sst20 but now I’ll wait for the sst20 in titanium version.
I might buy the copper as well…sooo attempting!

Mine FW3A HI 7A arrived today. Very nice light, annoying click.
Next step put LH351D 4000K 90CRI in it.

Steel is usually able to be bent slightly without any issues. Not sure how that black finish will hold up when you try it though

Fantastic.
I’ve seen a couple people speculate about this, so I figured I might as well ask it here directly:
Are you planning on carrying drilled optics for trits?
I think I’d prefer tritium vials over a glow gasket.
And a brass version?

I mean, the actual number is pretty simply:
Units of new design sold * Margin per unit – Cost tooling – design cost = Profit (without taking into account time value)
If that number is higher than zero, it’s profitable (but they still might not do it).
The problem is that it can be hard to gauge that first variable.
