I think it’s just a first prototype, not a final design. If I understand correctly, the finish is probably not right on this one, and perhaps other details too.

At least I like the profile of Fritz’s design better, I’m not so fond of smooth curves. (nice clip though!)

I signed on very early in the process, and had not read this thread for quite a while. Countless posts of people who want in, or who want out. Sometimes without looking at the title of the thread. A few days ago I did an inventory of lights I have, and lights that are on their way to me. Looking at the bottom-line I asked myself: do I really need one more light?
One glance at this picture made it perfectly clear: Yes, I do!

You are a flashaholic if you are forced to come out of the closet, to make room for more flashlights.

That’s funny. I prefer the curves. To each his or her own!
Regardless of the shape, I’m looking forward to this light!
There seems to be an imbalance now that one side has a gradual slope and the other side has an abrupt edge. Maybe both ends of the inner tube should have matching slopes? That would give it more of a coke bottle shape or woman’s shape, which is sexy of course! Lol

Not true, it does exist, at least in prototype form. I’ve seen pics on Facebook, shared by Neal Zhang. I tried to find them again but they were in a comment, not in their own post, and Facebook search really sucks.
I think this might be the picture you’re referring to:
I’m hoping the prototype(s) will be sent soon so we can get moving again on development and testing.

The ledge at the back end is a functional part of the design, and shouldn’t be a smooth slope. That’s where the fingers catch to provide something to push against when pushing the tail button — cigar-style grip. It’s a bit like a tactical grip ring.

I agree. The tail end doesn’t need to have a long sloped curve like the front, just radius whats there. I personally think the curves makes it look much nicer, and less like a cheap budget light.
Oh, wait. This means I’ll have a lot of work to do soon. D’oh. Particularly for thermal regulation, to see if I can get it to behave better. I’m hoping to get it to about the same level as Zebralight, but I’ve been procrastinating because the thermal development and testing is a pain.
Zebralight: (flat, no oscillation, no over-shooting, but a little noisy)
Anduril on an Emisar D4: (when it’s behaving, which it doesn’t always)
If I recall correctly, ZL has 288 levels it can regulate to. Anduril has about 100 (maybe up to 120), but it uses in-between steps during adjustment so there are actually about 640 levels (though it can only stop at about 100 of those). The changes look smooth in both cases. I mostly just need to get Anduril to never oscillate, and make it adjust slower (or not at all) when things are balanced (or very close to balanced).

Cigar style grip? No one uses that, do they? Maybe 1% of buyers?
What about a 45° bevel on each end?

It applies to multiple grip styles. With a smooth body, it needs some way to stop grip from sliding when the button is pressed. Maybe it doesn’t need to be 90 degrees, maybe 60 would be enough… but it needs something there.
Is this the final design of the FW3A ? It is different from the pics in the first post

The smoothness of the tube at the end of the clip helps make the light not get stuck on your clothes.

Exactly. That first design will always catch the edges on something in your pocket. Definitely prefer this latest picture look.
Cool. Please add me too
Thanks
In for 2, if this is still going
Too late to i get in on this?

This project is going to take awhile, so the GB should be open for a few more months at least.

completely agree with you regarding the design
I liked the original design, but the updated one is certainly growing on me.
Lumintop send out the samples today

Uh, does that mean the FW3A gets the reforged sword?
I don’t understand.

Anduril is the sword that was created when the shards of Narsil were reforged.
Beam me up!
That sounds very corny. Are you guys playing Dungeons and Dragons or something?

And I had to look up corny.
I think the verry first rows of NarsilM source code have a Lord of the Rings reference.
